I just scored another of my favorite tubes...an Amperex 7308. This one is an orange globe manufactured in the 4th week of 1968. To my ears the white label and orange globe US made tubes sound the same and construction appears to be identical. All but one I have are white labels made between 1963 and 1966. The one orange globe I had was made in the 43rd week of 1968. Now, the White label Amperex 6922s I have do sound superior to some orange globe 6922s I bought but it may be because the orange labels weren't burnt in yet. I yanked them and put in a couple PQ white label. I can't believe I wrote all that. Oh, I paid $24.50 plus $6.14 S&H.

Anyway, this is the next album...

The cymbals on the Jarrett LP were a bit too bright so I replaced what I think is an Amperex 7308 with the labels rubbed off...gold pins and top seams but no etched codes...so I'm not 100% sure but that's how it was sold. Anyway, I bought 4 pair of amperex 6922s..one pair is doing duty in my Zen Signature monoblocks. The seller had wrapped two pair together telling me one of each was noisy. I decided I'd try one in the CSP3 because in the monos they had taken a bit of the edge off. What I put in is a RCA red labeled tube with "Made in Holland 6922" in White print...same gold pins and seamed top but there is no etched code. There are 4 numbers, 6335, in red but not with a hyphen as I'm accustomed to...so I'm thinking 1963, 35th week. Any help from the peanut gallery? Bottom line?...it sounds great and did make the cymbals less edgy...it'll stay put for now.

Haven't played this set in years and it sounds excellent. I played around with isolating footers all week and finally just settled on Iso-Cups all around on components and feel confident that is the best of what I have available. The system is sounding great!
