I only have a little time and started with CD #2 of the "Seven Steps To Heaven" Box...it has a studio session with Miles, George Coleman, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and Herbie Hancock in May 1963. Then at track #5 begins the recordings from France in July 1963...previously unreleased material and unedited versions of this fantastic music...Much better sound than the reissue Vinyl copy that Lon said was "Fake" stereo...these appear to be in glorious Mono as recorded originally. I always seem to forget how wonderful this Transition period between 1963 and 1964 was. This box set should get more play. Mark.

I've moved to the Cave but will listen with the Jolida 100 and CDs rather than the ZP3 and Vinyl as is usually the rule in the Cave. I want to explore the "Seven Steps To Heaven " box set some more...but first I want to listen to the Chet Baker CD I started not long ago...it sounds excellent with the Cave Setup...

PS...Syd, I see you're on...recently I got an email alerting me that our Eastern European ebay seller, Alex, has a quad and a pair of the Photon power tubes we both bought. Also there is another seller who is selling a pair. I forget which is which but there are late 50's and 60's Photons. I thought about ordering a couple as back up but decided against it since I'm currently quite happy with the RTF/Seimens EL-34s in the Torii. Let me know if you buy more. Are you still running the Photons? I'm still running the small pair of 60's Russian triple mica tubes in my CSP3 with a Holland Made Amperex 6922 as the input tube...everything is sounding amazing. Mark.

Yes I`m still running the Fotons Mark. I like them a lot.
I have seen more on e-bay for the last 3 months or so, a pair I think. I`ll check out the quad. If there are `50`s ones it could be tempting but I love these ones I have in now (`60`s) and they have a 10,000hr life so.....

Syd, I went back and checked...I bought two pairs for $40 each...so $80 plus postage but I think they are late 60's photon/Fotons (seen it spelled both ways). The current quad has a 1957, 1958 and two 1960 tubes for $120. The pair he has are both 1968s for $45. The other sellers pair are 1968 and 1967 for $35...which is less than I originally paid by 5 bucks. Below are the links. Mark.

I found this reissue of Live recordings from the summer of 1978. I enjoyed Chuck Mangonie back then but actually preferred his albums prior to his two most popular ones..."Feels So Good" and "Main Squeeze"...I think I lost interest after they were released.

I saw a Sinatra Tribute this past Friday with Jeff Tyzik conducting the the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Curtis Stigers with his Trio. I mention this because Jeff was with Chuck Mangione for a longtime, including this recording, in the capacity of producer, director, arranger and lead trumpet player.

I am thoroughly enjoying this trip down memory lane. I saw an outdoor concert by Chuck Mangione in the 70's somewhere in Western New York with his Dad selling T-shirts and other stuff. Mark.
