Lon, I knew I probably had all the live Columbia Monk CDs but wasn't sure. This morning I looked for the Monk Big Band and Quartet box and indeed I have it too. So I think I won't buy the new box just yet....maybe if the price comes down a lot as others in this series have. The Ellington and Blakey boxes are still on my list.

I was glad to see you tried some Laura Nyro. The CD you listened to was her first album, I believe on the Verve Folkways label with the cover you posted. It was later reissued in the 70's when Columbia was having success with her. There is a very inexpensive (less than $19) CD box set that has her 70's Columbia studio albums...I recommend it. Mark.

Hey Mark, yeah if you have that Big Band and Quartet in Concert, and you have the Straight No Chaser Soundtrack cd, then there's just a few tracks that are added to one of the discs of the Newport set that you may not have in this box. . . they appeared on the Mysterioso cd (and the one French CBS cd that was issued in the 'nineties.) No real reason to have the box set til it gets really cheap.

As for LN, I bought her next album on cd and will listen to it soon. If it doesn't really float my boat much more than the "New Discovery" then my experiment will end right there. . . .

Yesterday I moved about six boxes of records out of my storage and found a way to squeeze them in here without spoiling domestic harmony, so I've been doing that while listening to

This morning I decided to fire up the Taboo MK III>Audeze LCD 2.2 headphones and listen to some Keith Jarrett Trio I don't have yet. I've easily found all tracks of this 2013 release recorded live in 2009, on you tube...It's been added to my wish list at Amazon. Mark.

I've chosen my next album. This one on Spotify, is already on my wish list but I haven't listened to it in it's entirety. I had read about it....it has Paul Motian from the original Bill Evans Trio and Marc Johnson on Bass from Bill's last Trio, so you can see being recorded at the Village Vanguard, it conjures up all the history of the original Bill Evans Trio recordings from the Vanguard with the Trio that included Scott La Faro prior to his death. Mark.
