Dear Steve,
Fist I want to congratulate you on creating an amazing company & website, dedicated to designing & producing wonderful tubed gear, to play music that feeds our souls! Bravo!
I feel good tape has the potential to bring us closest to the real musical event. Tape has many attributes not found in any other format... mainly it has sound "density", there is a real "mass" & "weight" in an absolute sense that vinyl can only hint at.... IMHO
It's the low level detail that allows us to hear utter transparency.... which brings us to the musical event. Transparency is the Holy Grail...
Another is dynamics... most recordings are equalized, the low levels are boosted & the loud reduced, to get the signals on the grooves... but tape can truly whisper & roar with everything in between in a linear progression. It can be quite startling to hear this for the 1st time on a good system....(we're not used to hearing this in recorded sound...) It can approach the true dynamics in a chamber music concert...
My tapes grew out of a love for live classical chamber music & a love for all things audio... making these recordings was the next logical step... My focus was always to bring this immortal music in a captivating performance to your living room....
I want to give thanks to my good friends, tube guru, Tony Ma & Studer tech, Roger Ginsley for coming on this journey with me!
