I want you to realize that this system in total is 12,000 US dollars. That's the source, preamp, amplifier, cables and speakers. The speakers are 1,200 US dollars.
There is a real lesson in this and it is the opposite of what we have been taught.
So here we have the speaker, which are uniquely great I admit, but still only 10% the total system cost. See how many dealers, or manufactures think this is the answer. My guess is that most would put the speakers at of 51% of the total system cost. I mean they are what you see, they are what you hear the sound come from so they should be the most expensive part... you've all heard this. It's clearly BS. I've know this for 30 years. Started in the hobby as a speaker designer and realized after getting into amplification that the amplifiers were what was making the speakers disappear, not the "time alignment" or design premise of the speaker. It was a hard reality to accept at the time, but it has held true since I realized it. This is basically proof.
My takeaway tonight is that the cables are probably and literally as important as the amplifier both of which are 10x more important than the actuall speakers you hook them to. And I don't think 10x is an exaggeration in many cases.
