Listening to guitarist
Rick Holmstrom this evening. He has recorded a lot fairly traditional blues, but as time has gone by, he has recorded in a wide range of styles. In recent years, he has been performing with Mavis Staples.
Right now, listening to "
Lookout!" from 1995, which is blues instrumentals in pretty traditional styles:

Earlier, listened to "Hydraulic Groove" released in 2002. I'm not sure exactly what to call it, but has a lot of bluesy material, but with more modern production, including sampling. When it works, it is pretty cool (my favorite song is "Pee Wee's Nightmare" (probably referencing blues guitarist Pee Wee Crayton) which I think is a pretty creative and effective blending of blues with other elements.
