Upcoming projects

Had a poker night with some of my old high school buddies on Saturday. As is usual we spend an hour or so more horse trading stuff. I got rid of stuff I'd never use and got a massive butcher block, 21x27x3. It weighs a bunch. Needs some work. The goal is to use this under the turntable.

One buddy has a huge property and a friend with a portable sawmill. They cut this maple slab about five years ago and he never used it. The goal here is to make isolation platforms for the UFO, CSP and ZP3 with plenty of leftover.

Didn't bring this home Saturday, I started messing this up last week. Too much coffee or in a rush, I cut it the original board into usable thirds. I should have flattened the damn board before cutting it. Either way, this is cherry and the plan is to make matching bases for the UFO, CSP, and ZP3.

Likely going to take a month of Sundays to get it all done.

I love seeing what people have created so if you have any projects started, finished, or otherwise feel free to add them!

Finally got this "project" done. As with anything I try to do with wood things didn't go exactly to plan. One of the maple platforms came out a wee bit less thick than the other two, got a little rambunctious with the planer getting it square on all four sides and took a bit too much off the bottom.

Then there's the cherry case for the CSP2+...a monumental screwup with glue almost had me start over. I used painters tape to hold the four sides together. Sometime after I walked away the front piece shifted and twisted. Not only were the corners mucked up, the recessed edge where the amp screws down went out of square as well. Then pulling the tape off took a couple streaks of soft wood with it. In my younger days I would have thrown it at the wall and started over. Did what I could to minimize the damage and went for 'done' over 'perfect'. From 10' away it looks great, but not winning awards up close!

The grain of the UFO25 and CSP2+ make it look a bit tilted, I assure you it's dead level.

Sean they look great! Nice work. I like the blue cork vibration control pads underneath. I'm not as sure about the tan colored ones.  Are they too absorbent to take black paint? The woodwork looks perfect.

Very nice looking.
They look way better than any of the "Ten Footer" projects I've ever done.

I just finished a dining room table for my wife.
All I ever see is where I messed up!

Sean, those cases look really nice.  The grain on the first one makes for a great eye-brain twister; I finally was able to “see” it level.  If you move the short platform to the middle, it will look like you were adding artist flair.  ;)
Thanks for the tube holder idea; my next project.

Tony, the tan cork footers take permanent black magic marker; I’m sure they would also take paint.

Love the tube holder too, Sean. Nice job.

Donnie, my dad would never do drywall. He always said if anyone else did it, it looked great. When he did it all he could see were all the imperfections. I believe that’s what beer is for.

Thanks all.

I'm always my own worst critic, like Donnie I see every little goof up on my own work. I will NEVER do drywall ever again. The room my system is in took me two years to get the drywall done. Took a month to go from bare walls to drywall hung. Put it on, take it off, put it...WTF hasn't anyone come up with a better way! I learned this from my dad who needed me there to mishandle the flashlight, bring the wrong tool, not read his mind, etc...the level was the worst thing to see him with, you knew it was going to be a long afternoon.

Tony, funny I was the opposite on the blue vs tan. I sharpie'd the blue and like them blacked out better, tomorrow I'm going to redo them, slightly purple now, and the corks. Not exactly what's going here, but a bunch of these pads are not equally tall. I did buy the corks in two different orders, the blues I bought as 4"x4" and cut them into 2x2.

Sentry, the left is African Padauk and the right walnut, both Decware made. I made a note last night to swap the right two platforms. Evens it out a bit better.

how do i make my facebook cover photo private

Well that makes three of us!

Drywall is a pain and takes some real top end muscle to getherdone.

Seems we are running in the same direction. I just got my SDFB. Going to use an old Tripp Lite Isobar single gang box after seeing your issue. At first, the box would not work symmetricaly because the switch cutout would place the second duplex receptical at an odd placement or so I thought. If I cut the second receptical to eliminate the old switch cutout it would offset enough from the other receptical to place the Snubway without interference from the ZP3, CSP2, and SE84 plugs.

Congrats on getting your plans accomplished! Looks good! Impressive maple platforms!

Cherry wood is always hard to get a blemish free finish. I have steered away from using it many many years ago because of that.
