My employer and career require me to move every few years. This has given me a lot of experience listening in different spaces and a lot of turmoil as well. I currently find myself in the early stages of moving again and at the moment my listening room is being dismantled.
I have sold my BDAs as they are just too heavy and bulky to move. Likewise, several diffusers and wall/ceiling panels of oc703 went to friends. Currently I have my raw system with 4 ft of diffusion between the two speakers and the gear on the floor. Things will stay this way for the next month or so in order to keep my natural daily listening requirement and stress relief but no frills.
I’ve worked really hard over the last few years to get my current arrangement really dialed in so it’s actually been kind of cool to rewind and take pieces of treatment out one by one and remember what each does and what sonic breakthroughs occurred with the installation of each piece. I could be sad about how flabby the bass is now or how the Jupiter caps do sound “dark” but on the bright side, I know what to do in my next space to make things sound good again. It’s also really cool to listen to my system in an empty room and, despite where I’ve come from, listen and say “this is different but dang it sounds good!”
