Zkit Anniversary mods cap value and PS increase

I have a Zkit on order and in looking through this forum, it has been suggested that you can increase the 33 UF electrolytic caps to 47 UF to get a lower noise floor.  is there anything else that would need to be changed and could you go higher than 47 without changing anything else?

Also, what film cap values are used to bypass the electrolytic caps?  Also on the schematic it shows bypassing the 3.3uf caps too.  If I am reading it right.  I am not super clear on reading schematics.

Any pictures you all have of the anniversay mod would be great.  Thanks!! Smiley

I think i have figured out the anniversary mods.  I am going to increase the 33uf caps to 100uf to decrease the noise floor.  What first value bypass would you all use for that?  the 33uf are bypassed by a .33uf then a .1uf on top of that if I am reading the schematic right.  Any downsides to going with 100 uf caps?  I found F&T and they will fit and with the diode rectification, it has been posted that it is not a problem to go that high.  thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi, SROWE, welcome to the forums!
I’ve built several of these now, both tube rectified and diode rectified, using the PCB and point to point versions. I’ve never found a need to increase that cap value. I would personally follow the schematic exactly (and make sure you’re using the newest schematic- some older ones have typos), and include the anniversary mods. This is a very fine sounding circuit. I think you will find more pleasure in geeking out on quality caps than changing their values.

There is a lot of good info on this forum regarding cap types. Pay particular attention to member Will’s advice.

Good luck, and keep us posted on your build.

Gilf,

Thank you for the warm welcome!  Thanks for the insight on the caps!  Have placed an order with mouser and will be getting a few other things while I impatiently wait on the trasformers..lol  Will keep everyone updated on the build!  Thanks again!
