ARCAM PA 240 Class A 50W Class G 380W 2-Chan Amp

Beautiful sounding amp. Class G - First 50 watts are in Class A. Unit has a couple of small nicks (see pictures) but overall it is in great condition. I do not have the original packaging but it will be packed carefully. Great reviews of ARCAM Class G amps on line.

$1,599.00 plus shipping at $100.00 (CONUS only)

From my personal system. I am currently using the ARCAM amp with Magnepan speakers with great results, it seems that the first 50 watts of Class A amplification make my Maggies sing at lower volumes, a big improvement over my previous power amps (Benchmark, Rega).

Versatile Class G amplifier:

The engineers who designed the PA240 wanted it to provide the right amount of power at the right time, so your music always sounds exactly as it should. That's why they chose a Class G amplifier design, which uses Class A circuitry for low-level signals, then kicks in a higher-voltage power supply for more demanding dynamic peaks. And it does it without adding any crossover distortion or noise.

2 Channel Power Amplifier:

2 x 225 Watts Class G amplification (8ohm, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.2% THD)
2 X 380 Watts Class G amplificationper channel into 4 ohms
1 x 790 Watts Class G bridged mode (8ohm, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.2% THD)
Class G amplification with 50W of class A operation

Stereo, Dual Mono or Bridged operation
Ethernet, RS232 control
RCA or balanced XLR inputs

Product highlights:

efficient high-voltage Class G amplifier
toroidal power transformer for low noise and high-current output
switchable gain: 25/31dB (31dB is default setting)

Connections:

1 pair of balanced XLR preamp inputs
switchable RCA/XLR input mode
1 pair of unbalanced RCA preamp outputs
L/R speaker outputs with binding-post connectors
USB Type-A port for firmware updates
RS-232 and Ethernet ports for control via third-party automation systems
12-volt trigger input and output
Dimensions and warranty:
17-1/16"W x 7"H x 16-3/4"D

Online Review:

Crystal clear, detailed and solid

I'm a usual Crutchfield customer. Have bought several gear from them (receivers, tower speakers, center channels, amps, subs) always backed-up electronics and speakers and a+++ customer service. Notwithstanding, I bought this nice amp from another supplier on a sale. No reviews at all about it almost anywhere, so decide to provide some comments on it. It is really a nice amp, most attractive feature is that it provides up to 50 watts on class an operation (class G amp), XLR connectors, 225 wpc. Same amplification topology as the JBL Synthesis SDA-2000 at 1/3 of its price. I'm not an expert on sound measurement, but believe me, sound is crystal clear, detailed and solid. No distortion noticed at several volume levels, at least up to 75 percent of full range, which is pretty loud. Paired with a Parasound JC2 BP pre-amp (for me the heart of what I have accomplished with all my gear). I use this set just for music, although use it in by-pass mode for Home Theater with McIntosh gear. Speaker towers are Revel F206 with a couple of SVS-3000 subs. Initially used a Parasound A23+ amplifier and once I hooked-up th ARCAM Pa-240 amp, definitively decided to keep it. Instructions are somewhat vague, but set-up is quite simple. Sound, what matters, is perfect for my taste.

Pros: Price, topology, excellent sound, easy set-up
Cons: None, whoever wrote the instructions appeared to be in rush
