RECOMMENDED 10 INCH DRIVER FOR THESE ENCLOSURES:
Dear Enthusiast,
Currently everyone is gaga over power handling... i.e... major brand name drivers now claim to handle 500 /1000 plus watts.
What car audio manufactures don’t bother to mention is that the more power their woofers can handle, the less efficient they are likely to be.
Most “high power woofers are around 85 dB sensitivity. That means they will create an SPL of 85dB with one watt of power. Since you have to double your power every time you want a 3dB increase in SPL, it doesn't take long for these high power drivers to be at their thermal limit. For example, take a typical car audio 10 inch woofer that handles 400 watts RMS and is 84.5 dB efficient. That means at 400 watts the SPL is at around 110 dB. This of course assumes you have the money for a good 400 watt amplifier to run it.
These Daytons at 91.7dB will hit the same 110 dB with around 100 watts. And at it's thermal limit of 275 watts RMS it is doing 114 dB. (Enclosure type and cabin gain adds considerable SPL to the above figures.
If all this is new to you, I recommend reading part of car audio book "Secrets of Car Audio" - it may save you from making costly and all too common mistakes.

History about this driver
Decware in 1996, while looking to improve the performance of it’s famous “Deathbox cabinet, developed a woofer using USA made Eminence parts to create a ten inch model called the DHM108. A magnet assembly from an 18 inch driver was riveted to a ten inch frame and a nylon disk was inserted to accommodate an oversized spider assembly.  Dayton Audio has provided the production model of this approach for many years selling it through Parts Express. The DHM108’s while originally hand made by Decware became hand-selected and graded Dayton's and called the DHM108b’s. These selected drivers were sold to our own customers. The process involved measuring the T&S parameters and rejecting everything that did not fall within our specifications.  We have seen enough improvement over the years that we no longer have to do this with our recommended enclosures shown above, so we’ve discontinued the DMH108b drivers and replaced them with the Dayton ST225-8 and dropped the price by 25%
