KIT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 26

NOTES:

The next step is to prepare and install the power supply caps. There are two, each should be prepped with a strip of sticky caulk or silicon to prevent any resonance's against the chassis when installed. Super Glue is used to install the units into the chassis. The glue is applied to the base only.

These caps are European computer grade rated at 500 Volts and only seeing a turn on surge of 345 Volts, with a normal B+ of only 275 volts. This combined with their excellent reputation for never failing is a key ingredient for a long service life. This is the one area where most amplifiers fall short, and always the first thing to go.

In SE84B amplifiers the power supply was updated and simplified. In place of these caps axial lead Nichicon 33uf 450V caps are used mounted to terminal strips located on each of the 4 power transformer bolts.

In the SE84C and CS amplifiers the power supply was again modified. In place of the 4 Nichicon caps, two SPRAGUE ATOM 40uf 450V caps were used along with two SPRAGUE ATOM 20uf 250V caps in series to make up the final section of the filter. These were mounted on two terminal strips located on the power transformer bolts closest to the front of the amplifier. The two 20uf caps used one of the terminal strips mounted to the rectifier socket screws.
