KIT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 38
NOTES: Allright, now it's time to lay out the bias circuit for the input stage. The two square caps you see on either side are poly caps. These are used as part of the power supply and are the final filter caps for each channel (half) of the input tube. The caps being the larger component should be installed first. If you kit was supplied with round axial lead caps, they can be installed the same way as the square ones shown. The switch is used to bring a second set of bias resistors in parallel with the first to drop the bias voltage from 4.7 volts to 2.1 volts via the switch. Since the bias switch is used for this purpose, it also becomes a ground lug for the two capacitors as well as the first set of bias resistors. Pins 3 and 8 should have the 2.7K going permanently to ground. In addition to that, you should parallel a 1.5K through the switch to ground on each side. The two lugs on the switch where the caps are connected will be grounded with a litz wire no yet shown. |
Model SE84B and SE84C and SE84CS uses 3.3uf 400V Solen caps that are smaller and allowed to "float" above the tube socket rather than be glued to the chassis.
